Sutivan or Stivan - the way the locals call it, is located on the north-western part of the island of Brač. The architecture of Sutivan dates back to Diocletian times. The place got its name after a small Church of St. John the Baptist that was built on the foundations of an Early Christian basilica from the 6th century. Renaissance palaces, Baroque-style summer mansions and typical Dalmatian stone houses make the place irresistible. Sutivan is known for its hospitality, its numerous pebble beaches offering peace and quietness, the scents of Mediterranean and its crystal clear sea. Many marked trails are there for hikers and cyclists to enjoy the views of the ancient olive-groves and vineyards. Every July there is an extreme sports festival “Vanka regule”, already an attraction in the world. The festival guarantees lots of fun for the contestants, observers or anyone passing by. Another attraction, just next to Sutivan, is the Nature Park Sutivan. Kind locals offer their guests luxurious to affordable accommodation in numerous rooms and apartments. Larger families can find an ideal summer mansion while those more demanding can choose one of the villas in the place. An inscription on the front of a summer mansion in the centre reads “OSTIVM NON HOSTIVM”; the heart of this cute Dalmatian place is open to friends. Visit Sutivan and enjoy the hospitality of its people.
